Resurrection Creek Bridge

Nick Georgelos

Construction of a 100-foot span Acrow Bridge crossing Resurrection Creek located in Hope, AK. The installation of this bridge now provides access for heavy construction equipment to perform Phase II of a multi-year stream restoration project occurring over a 2.2 mile stretch of Resurrection Creek.

The first statge of this project included site layout, tree clearing, drainage installations, site preparation, excavation and foundation construction work. The site layout design and construction needed to accommodate a re-route of an existing drainage system, access for a 300-ton off-road crane, area designated for the erection of the bridge structure, as well as the foundation for the final bridge location.

The second stage of the bridge construction included the erection of the bridge structure, mobilization of the crane and final placement of the bridge structure.

The final stage of project included construction approach ramps, decking the bridge, installing the guardrail, final grading and installation of signage and site clean-up.

Iditarod National Historic Trail - Falls Creek Bridge

Nick Georgelos

Construction of a 105-foot span wooden truss bridge crossing Falls Creek connecting existing sections of the Iditarod National Historic Trail, located in Crown Point, AK. All materials including foundation gravel, shoring materials, wooden truss bridge components, tools and equipment were all flown in and also removed using a variety of helicopters sized to meet our specific needs.

All site preparation, site layout, tree clearing, excavation and foundation construction work was completed during the summer and fall of 2020.

During the summer of 2021, a temporary structure was designed and constructed to span Falls Creek providing support and a working platform during the assembly of the wooden truss bridge. Once the wooden truss bridge was complete and spanning the creek under its own weight, the temporary structure was dismantled and prepared for flight away from the site. Backfill and associated trail work was performed by hand, utilizing native materials and capped with imported gravel for the bridge ramps.

This bridge now completes a continuous 7 mile trail loop that can be accessed via two different trailheads along the Seward Highway connecting the Ptarmigan Creek Campground to Vagt Lake. This trail is great for hiking, biking, skiing and pack horse. Enjoy!

Iditarod National Historic Trail - Upper Ingram Creek Bridge Construction

Nick Georgelos

Construction of a 40-foot wooden glulam beam bridge crossing Upper Ingram Creek connecting existing sections of the Iditarod National Historic Trail, located in Turnagain Pass, AK. All materials including foundations, wooden glulam bridge components, tools and equipment were all flown in and also removed using a variety of helicopters sized to meet our specific needs.

During the fall of 2020, pre-cast concrete bridge sills and the wooden glulam beams were flown in via helicopter and placed in the exact bridge location. Decking of the bridge was also completed prior to the onset of winter. The site preparation was previously completed by the US National Forest Service trail crews.

During the summer of 2021, the Alaskan Yellow Cedar handrail materials were flown in and handrail constructed. Backfill and associated trail work was performed by hand, utilizing native materials and capped with imported gravel for the bridge ramps.

This bridge now completes a continuous 8 mile trail loop that can be accessed via two different trailheads along the Seward Highway. This trail is great for hiking, biking, skiing and pack horse. Enjoy!
